The Perfect Salad: Quick And Convenient

Building a Flavourful Salad

Salads are great for weight loss and good health, but they don’t have to be enjoyable and bland! The FitFarms nutrition team teach enjoying the foods you eat on a diet and tastes to your preference are going to prevent you from backsliding. So, how do you build a salad that is both nutritious and tasty?

Protein

Adding protein to each meal is key. Within your daily diet women need around 45g of protein and men need around 55g day to day. Hitting your protein within each meal is key for reaching your daily needed protein, gaining muscle and supporting your health.

There are lots of different choices of protein you can add to your salad which is going to build flavor and boost nutrients. Chicken and fish are great additions to salad. Either having it mixed in or on the side, fish and chicken are both white lean meats, a great, low calorie source of protein.

If your veggie or fancier a easier option than cooking, nut, chickpeas, tofu, boiled eggs or quinoa are also protein rich foods which compliment salads perfectly. Also easy to combine into most dishes to boost your protein intake.

Fruit And Veg

Pick fruit and veg that compliments your taste palette and preference! Avocados, tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, spinach, carrots are vitamin full, colourful foods easy to add into your dish.

In terms of fruit, be creative! Pomegranates, apples, strawberries and pineapple can add that sweet flavor to your salad that can completely change the dish!

Nuts And Seeds

Nuts like almonds, walnuts and cashews are a good source of extra protein, vitamins and omega-3 fatty acid. Boosting your health while mixing up your salad and variety. The same with seeds, not something everyone would think to add to a salad. Flaxseeds, chia seeds and sunflower seeds are filled with vitamins, high in fiber and healthy fats!

Dressing

Dressing is what can take your salad from being healthy to unhealthy. One simple and flavorful dressing you could try when trying to keep your salad healthy is lemon and olive oil. Mix these to parts equally and drizzle over your salad, packed with antioxidants. Or balsamic vinegar and Dijon mustard, for a more strong flavored dressing. Explore with your dressing and flavour to your taste, but stay mindful of the more calorific options out there.
